Welcome to SUNIST Fusion and Plasma Science Laboratory
SUNIST, the abbreviation of Sino-UNIted Spherical Tokamak, is a small spherical tokamak in the Department of Engineering Physics, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China. Currently SUNIST is the only spherical tokamak in China.
Overview of SUNIST device
The device construction of SUNIST was completed in 2002, and the first plasma current was obtained on November 4th, 2002. SUNIST United Laboratory was founded on December 29th, 2005. The united lab consists of Department of Engineering Physics, Tsinghua University and Institute of Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, keeping close collaboration with Southwestern Institute of Physics, China National Nuclear Corporation and Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences
The mission of SUNIST is to explore spherical torus plasmas. Main experiments were involved with breakdown and plasma current set-up with a mode of saving volt-second and without ohmic-heating system, equilibrium and instability, edge turbulence, current driving, heating and profile modification.
